this is a analysis project using crane hook by using different material.and best use of ansys tool for optimization
Why crane hook ?
A Crane Hook is a device for lifting and moving of heavy objects. Mainly operated by hydraulic system.
Whenever the lifting is taking place there is chance of failure of the crane hook due to stress
So need to select appropriate material and good design for safety.
In this work a crane hook is designed using forged steel with different cross sections.
The von mises stress distribution are calculated for 50 ton load capacity.
We tried to suggest new cross section for crane hook.
Forged Steel ( AISI 4140).
General materials used .
CRANE HOOK ASSUMPTIONS CONSIDERED :
Hook Material Homogeneous and Isotropic
Material Obeys Hooke's law
The Young's modulus is same both in tension and compression
The transverse sections which are plane before bending remain plane after bending also
Each layer of the beam is free to expand or contract, independent of the layerabove or below it
Selected various cross sections.
Analytical calculations and validated them using ISO standards.
Analysis of cross section using Ansys and try to optimize
Analyze variation of stresses in various cross sections.
Analysis of results.

OUR SUGGESTION BULL HEAD SECTION:
The Crane hook has been optimized for better performance at 50 ton loading condition by providing trapezoidal section or bull head section over other sections.
Generating trapezoidal section or bull head section over other sections, we conclude that stresses are significantly reduced.
Hence, geometry of crane hook plays very important role.
Analysis and knowledge of above results will help us while designing-other applications.
It will enhance our thought process towards good design.
